this software is great!i did not notice much slowdown on my suse 10 system at all. using a geforce 5700 ultra. however i bumped up the memory options to use 400mb of memory for cache and kept the default of 400mb of cached disk space. after these changes everything seemed faster than when i last used this on windows. i can not say about the beta build performace on windows but the linux beta seemed to be faster than the v3 released build.come-on, this deserves a 5!i, and prob. many others, submitted to google's request page for google earth asking for a linux version!i have made the switch to linux as well, but could not stand open office, so i run ms office using crossover office.

this is a great idea. to bad we can't play 32bit games, but no virtualization can't run 3d graphics. we're on the way to 64 bit and thats what matters.

garbage. convoluted interface and operation. i rebooted and let it do its thing, and it presented me with a dire message that was cut off so i couldn't even read the whole thing. the only option was to "fix it", but it didn't give me a clue what the hell that would actually do, so of course i didn't trust it.

the idea is really good, the demo songs are also really nice, the way they do it to keep compatibility with regular mp3 decoders is well thought. frauenhofer stores the additional surround info in a 16kbit/s in sidechannels so a regular stereo downmix still works.but for using it now it is way too early...mp3surround doesnt know streaming audio, and is quite slow on moving the timeline slider forward, even for normal mp3s.@ stycks:using cmss is not real surround sound, it adds just some hall effects, this codec has real 5.1 surround sound. you can't compare those 2for instance play doom3 with cmss upmix without using 3d 5.1 audio and then play it again with 5.1 .... there are worlds between the two..just wait until good demo songs are made, those provided didn't really blow my mind & ears...i'm sure some trance ppl will make some space sounding trance song that uses all 5.1 chanels and then shows what this codec is capable of.

this program has been garbage since its inception years ago. it truly amazes me that they are still developing this trash.

you know what microsoft, by not even showing linux on your list of desktop operating systems, it makes you look even more like effing c#nts.

i definitely agree with stevepake. ive also owned every single nfs game from 1-5. this is definitely by far the best nfs game released. ive played this for awhile now, and have been through the evolution and the factory driver mode (which is a welcome addition), and i must say that it is very addicting (and fun!). i especially like the way that you can modify the cars by buying parts and installing them. much like gran turismo, but imho i think this is an easier game to play w/ less hassle than gt. i cant wait for the next release of the series. with each nfs, it just gets better. perhaps an all bmw version is in the works (hopefully)? i would love to race an ///m5... :)

mr. troll... why is it such a problem to install an older version that you like? i always just do that and don't update any more, at least for the time being. btw. it's simply a problem with your pc of some kind as it works great for me. never jump to conclusions so quickly. but yeah, huge majority of people wouldn't admit it's their operating system, or drivers, or some program in the background that is being problematic. i'm into computer maintenance of rather sensitive audio and video workstations for like 15 years and i know what i'm talking about. so install the perfect version that works for you and... don't be a troll. :)) this is a fabulous player that i'm using since i installed windows 2000... i never felt a need to change it. d= ;) cheers! however, i would agree that mpc and mpc-hc are playing a little weird from version to version. i was most satisfied with 1.2 and 1.4 versions. for me they started being a bit problematic since v1.5. too many features, i guess... if they kept it simple and bug-free, it would be better. we don't use 90% of the features anyway. i know i don't. i play the movie, fullscreen, close it when the film is over. what else do you need? should it make pizza for you? :)) if i was a developer i would put all my effort into getting rid of bugs. not one single feature more. being a bugless program is a greatest feature of them all. ;) 5 stars nevertheless. this is one of the 15 and a half programs i have installed on my workstation.
